About PDFacile

Why we built it

Working with PDFs should not require installing heavy software, creating yet another account or wondering what happens to your documents after you upload them.

Our goal is simple: give you tools that do one job well, work in any modern browser and treat your files with respect. Everything is free to use, and you never need to sign up.

How we handle your files

Files are sent to our servers over HTTPS and processed there. The files you upload are stored under random names in a temporary folder and deleted as soon as processing finishes, whether it succeeds or fails.

The result is kept only so you can download it through a random, unguessable link. That link expires after 30 minutes, and an automatic cleanup job then deletes the file. If you are done sooner, click "Delete now" to remove it immediately.

We don't have user accounts or a database of documents. We never look at, sell, share or index your files, and we never use them to train anything.

The technology behind it

PDFacile is built on proven open-source components, including pdf-lib, Ghostscript, qpdf, LibreOffice and Poppler. We are grateful to the people who maintain them.

We wrap these tools in a straightforward interface, add sensible defaults and keep the processing pipeline short, so your files spend as little time on our servers as possible.

What's next

We keep improving existing tools and adding new ones based on what people ask for. Text recognition (OCR) for scanned documents is high on our list.
