An interrupted download, a failing drive or a buggy export can leave a PDF that viewers refuse to open. Often the content is still there and only the file's internal structure is damaged, which is exactly what a repair can fix.
It's worth a try before asking someone to resend the file. There's nothing to install and no account to create.
A PDF contains a cross-reference table that tells viewers where each object is stored. When that table is broken, the file is truncated or some objects are invalid, readers give up. We run the file through several engines in turn (qpdf, Ghostscript and a built-in rebuilder) that scan the raw data and rebuild the structure, and return the first result that opens cleanly.
Repair can only rebuild what is still in the file. If part of the data is physically missing, some pages or images may be lost, and a badly damaged file may not be recoverable at all.
No. Structural problems are usually fixable, but content that is missing from the file can't be brought back. Heavily damaged files may come back with fewer pages, or not at all.
Not directly. Remove the password first with Unlock PDF, then repair the unlocked copy.
In most cases, yes. Check the result anyway, since pages that were damaged may be missing or incomplete.
No. The upload is deleted right after processing, and the repaired PDF is deleted automatically after 30 minutes. Delete now removes it immediately.
